What Are You Waiting For?

Don't Wait for Later: Later Isn't Promised

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons, often when we least expect them. One of the most profound lessons I've learned over my four decades in the business of antiques and estate sales is the impermanence of time. We often find ourselves saying, "I'll do it later," as if we have all the time in the world. But the truth is, later isn't promised.

I’ve walked through countless homes, each filled with the remnants of someone’s life—items they cherished, projects they planned, dreams they nurtured. Some never got around to finishing those projects or living out those dreams. It’s a stark reminder that tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Every day, we have a choice. We can put off until tomorrow what we could do today, or we can seize the moment. I’ve seen too many beautiful antiques and personal treasures left unfinished, forgotten, or neglected because someone thought they’d have more time. Those items serve as silent witnesses to the fleeting nature of our existence.

In my line of work, I’ve had the honor of helping families sort through the possessions of loved ones who’ve passed. It’s a delicate, emotional process. The stories behind each piece are often tales of unfulfilled intentions—paintings left unpainted, books left unread, dreams left unrealized.

This isn’t just about physical objects, though. It’s about the relationships we nurture, the passions we pursue, and the lives we live. How many times have we put off a phone call to an old friend, postponed a hobby we love, or delayed telling someone how much they mean to us?

If there’s one piece of wisdom I can impart from my years of experience, it’s this: Don’t wait. Whatever it is you’re dreaming of, whatever it is you’re planning, start now. Take that leap. Make that call. Finish that project. Tell those you love how much they mean to you. Don’t wait for a later that might never come.

Remember, our time is our most precious commodity. Unlike antiques, it can’t be bought or sold; once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. So, live your life with a sense of urgency and appreciation. Cherish each moment, and make the most of the time you have.

Because later isn’t promised. And the only time we truly have is now.

Embrace it. Live it. Don’t wait.

Much love.
